BELIZE RAINFOREST

Throughout the history of Belize it's been attractive to the adventurous and the hardy - pirates, settlers who searched for a place to live hidden, away in the forbidding jungle. Now this remote tropical paradise is a jewel to those who seach adventure. Its vast expanses of rain forests, rich collection of birds and animals, long stretch of coral reef and plentiful Maya ruins will stimulate your creative juices.

Lamanai Outpost Lodge is situated on the banks of a 28 mile long spring fed lagoon amid the remnants of a major Maya city. It is surrounded by an incredible variety of habitats that facilitate unsurpassed nature-based and soft-adventure activities that depart right from your cabana's doorstep. Almost 400 species of birds have been recorded within a 3 mile radius of the lodge in a variety of readily accessible habitats that include vast Wetlands, Broadleaf Forest, Pine Savannah, Scrub and Riverine systems. The wildlife and diversity of ecosystems that surround the Lamanai Outpost Lodge are simply astounding - vast pine savannahs; pristine spring fed wetlands, tropical jungles, fresh water lagoons and long abandoned Maya cities.

Observe troops of Howler monkeys as they start the day foraging high in the jungle canopy. Babies cling tightly to their mother’s backs under the protective gaze of the dominant male whose call can be heard for miles. Learn about the species’ lifestyle, social dynamics and infant rearing practices

As the only resource for medicinal aid, indigenous people have long used a wide variety of local plants for their powerful and effective medicinal properties. Unlock the secrets and learn first hand how basic potions and salves are prepared and used to this day in Belize’s jungle villages The ruins of Lamanai, one of Belize's largest ceremonial centers, are located on the banks of the 30 mile long New River Lagoon in North Central Belize. With one of the longest occupation spans in the Maya World, Lamanai has been continuously occupied for over 3000 years. The Lamanai Archaeological Reserve also contains a museum, the remnants of two 16th century Spanish churches and a colonial sugar mill that was established in 1860. Set in tropical forest and providing spectacular views from several of its large temples, Lamanai provides a unique experience in the culture of the Maya and the biological diversity of a tropical forest.
